Simple Summer Regimens featuring Revision Vitamin C!

rev_vit_c_fb_email_350_175_c1_c__1 (1) Why would you change your regimen during the summer and why are we suggesting this particular combination?
People often change their daily skin regimens with seasonal changes for a variety of reasons. Some people find that the dry winter air causes dry skin and they tend to intensify their moisturizer during the colder months. Conversely, the humid air of the summer months, with the increased sweating from the heat, can often cause people to feel clogged and overwhelmed with the heavier moisturizer.
Additionally, the winter months have less sun exposure and during this time people often attack their pigmentation with chemical peels, lasers, strong retinols, and other treatments and products that increase the skin’s sensitivity to sun exposure. Furthermore, during summer everyone’s number one skin focus should be preventing sun damage. This is the number one anti-aging focus in general, but the awareness needs to be heightened during the months with increased sun exposure.
Our pairing of Revision Vitamin C with a variety of our sunscreens is the perfect summer regimen as it meets a variety of the needs for summer. First, this is very customizable to your skin’s need for moisture. The Revision Vitamin C is a serum that glides on and is immediately absorbed into the skin. This provides a very clean base to pair either a light sunscreen for a breathable feeling or a heavier sunscreen with moisture for more hydration. In addition to being customizable to your skin type, this super stable form of vitamin C increases the effectiveness of your sunscreen. Science says: “When vitamin C or a combination of vitamin C and E is formulated with a commercial UVA sunscreen (oxybenzone), an apparently greater than additive protection is noted against the phototoxic damage. These results confirm the utility of anti-oxidants as photoprotectants but suggest the importance of combining the compounds with known sunscreens to maximize photoprotection.”
Finally, vitamin C actually has brightening effects for the skin that are safe to use during the summer (particularly when paired with a heavy duty sunscreen.) According to science, “Vit. C interacts with copper ions at the tyrosinase-active site and inhibits action of the enzyme tyrosinase, thereby decreasing the melanin formation.” In layman’s terms, “decreasing the melanin formation” simply means decreasing brown spots and thereby brightening the overall tone of the skin.
Now that you are convinced about the effectiveness of this simple summer regimen what might some of those look like?

If you have oily or acne prone skin:

Note from Karen our aesthetitian, “Vitamin C has the potential to make an oily person oilier and the acne prone could break out with it. I am oily in the summer months and get the occasional hormonal breakout. Nonetheless, I use it most days by itself but if I feel some breakouts coming on I cut it with the Revision Hydrating Serum.

Consider pairing with EltaMD UV Physical. This Elta sunscreen is 100% mineral sunscreen featuring zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. This sunscreen has a very matte finish and includes a slight bit of tint to prevent the zinc from showing up on the skin.

Consider pairing with EltaMD UV Clear. UV clear is one of our number one sunscreen choices for acne prone skin. In addition to providing great sun protection, this is formulated with niacinamide to help reduce redness and inflammation. This combination will provide a VERY light regimen that easily glides on the skin and leaves you protected all day long.

If you have “normal or combination” skin:

Pairing the Revision Vit C with the EltaMD UV Daily is great for normal skin. The UV daily will provide an extra bit of moisture. This will compliment the brightening effects of the vitamin C and give you just the right amount of protection and hydration.

Pairing with this lovely Skin Medica sunscreen provides a bit more moisture and it is a 100% mineral sunscreen. Mineral sunscreen provides immediate protection from the sun and is a perfect match with the Revision Vitamin C.

If you have dry skin:

Our Smart Day Protect has a good level of moisture and will keep you extra hydrated while providing a strong SPF of 45. This extra moisture, when enhanced with our Vitamin C, is a lovely option for people with dry skin during the summer months.

If you have sensitive skin or prefer chemical free skin care:

If you are sensitive to chemicals or prefer chemical free products pairing the Goddess Garden Organic Facial Sunscreen with the vitamin C is a perfect simple regimen. The Goddess Garden facial sunscreen is our only 100% zinc oxide sunscreen. Therefore, it is particularly useful for people who are sensitive to titanium dioxide or chemical sunscreens. It does have a bit of moisture and is best suited for normal skin.
Enjoy a simple regimen that will keep you protected and radiant this summer!
