QUESTIONS

VBeam FAQ

The pulsed dye laser (PDL) is a cosmetic dermatological laser treatment that uses a specific wavelength of light which targets prominent blemishes such as red spots caused by broken blood vessels at the skin’s surface and port wine stains. The laser therapy greatly diminishes and even removes these imperfections to reveal a smooth, even complexion. PDL treatments are performed by a physician or trained clinician.

With the pulsed dye laser a concentrated beam of light is directed at blood vessels in the skin that create prominent marks. As the light hits the targeted areas, it converts to heat and destroys the blood vessel while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. Dark glasses are provided and worn by each patient to protect the eyes during the procedure.

PDL is most safe for lighter skin types and effective in treating red spots, facial spider veins, some birthmarks including port wine stains, some scars, and small cherry angiomas. In addition, PDL is also used in skin rejuvenation treatments, removing some types of warts, and treating severe acne.

PDL treatments are performed with patients in a comfortable, relaxed position. Some experience a mild stinging sensation when undergoing PDL treatment that is easily tolerated.

PDL treatments are very quick, generally taking just a few minutes, although the length of the treatment depends on the size of the area being treated. Additionally, depending on the extent of the targeted area, several sessions may be necessary.

Whether the results of PDL treatment are permanent vary on the condition being treated, and in some cases, lifestyle factors including sun exposure, smoking, and other influences may also affect long-term results. Before you have PDL treatment, discuss your goals and expectations with us.

After receiving PDL treatment, there is no special skin care required; however, it is recommended that you take care of your skin by following a daily skin regimen, using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and applying quality moisturizers.

The cost for PDL Therapy depends on the condition to be treated and the extent of the treatments. During a consultation with one of our dermatologists, we discuss the cost as well as our payment options. We accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards as payment. At Dermatology Affiliates, our staff works with each patient to provide customized treatments for patients in Atlanta and Marietta, GA including those designed to treat chronic skin diseases.
