Name: Sally Ann Adair
Date of Birth: 5/7/86
Position at DA: Retail Coordinator
Number of years working in Dermatology: 4
When I was a teenager, I never suffered from acne. I always had a nice soft complexion that remained (for the most part) pimple free. Because of this I never really learned good habits for skin care at a young age. I would wear make-up to bed, wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and say…. “Hey, yesterday’s make-up still looks grand!”…so I would leave it on! For another day!???!!! Was I crazy? Well… Obviously, I can’t do that anymore. Now at age 27, if I pull a stunt like that I get a nasty pimple (or two or three).
I have an olive skin tone. I’m half Puerto Rican (mother), half Caucasian (father) with pretty normal to oily to combination to dry skin. Yes. All of those rolled into one. My t-zone gets oily, while the rest of me gets dry or stays normal. My under-eye circles are a MESS. I’m actually starting to see some pigmentation (little brown spots) come up in my under eye area, undoubtedly a result of my “I’m Puerto Rican, I don’t need SPF phase” growing up. As a Hispanic woman, I have a bone to pick with hair growth! EVERYONE has hair on their face, but we Latina ladies and women of color have to worry about our darker hair on our face. I struggled with hair on my upper lip, uni-brow, and “side burns” as a teen and as an adult. Unfortunately, being a female with a mustache is unappealing according to society or something. I have to say, this used to embarrass me. I say ‘used to’ because now I see that I’m not alone! There are tons of women out there struggling with facial hair and we see them here at the office all the time. I treated my facial hair with our Laser Hair Removal in the office and I couldn’t be happier! Crisis averted.
Moving on. So to summarize, my skin care woes include:
1. The occasional acne flare-up
2. Uneven skin tone (sun damage = bad)
3. Under-eye circles
4. Facial hair
5. General anti-aging
So, here’s what I do to take care of my skin at home:
PM:
First, I cleanse my face with Sally B’s Skin Yummies Facial Cleanser. I LOVE this skin care line because of the organic ingredients used and the fact that it is vegan, which is important to me. But I also love the cleanser because of the way it does its job! It cleans my face, it smells good, and my husband loves it too. Once I have a clean face I apply my active anti-aging serums. First I use Skin Medica’s TNS Recovery Complex followed by our Smart Retinol. I love these serums because I know they contain good quality ingredients with proven results from clinical studies. After my 2 serums I applyRevision Teamine Eye Complex to my under-eye area just to target those awful under-eye circles. That’s it for nighttime! Only 3 steps!
AM:
After cleansing in the mornings, I apply the TNS Recovery Complex again followed by my Teamine Eye Complex and then finish up with my daily moisturizing SPF. Right now, I’m loving Revision’s Multi-Day Protection SPF 50. It’s loaded with antioxidants to help enhance the benefits of the sunscreen and protect my skin from nasty stuff like pollution and second-hand smoke. If I’m feeling saucy and I want to spice things up with a little make-up, I will use Sally B’s Skin Yummies Luxury Mineral Foundation. Again, I love this line because it’s a feel-good skin care company that doesn’t test on animals, uses all natural and organic ingredients, and is made locally in Atlanta! All that, and it makes me pretty. I use her B Cheeky Powder Blush too, which can double as eye shadow. I usually use some browns and purples with a bit of shimmer. To emphasize my lashes and line my lids I swear by EYEKO’s eye make-up (another cruelty-free skin care line). But you actually have to get it from London so you have to buy online and shipping takes a while, but trust me, it’s worth it… I read that Adele and Zooey Deschanel use it, and they’re gorgeous! Plus everything you read online is true,#amiright? That’s all for my at-home skin care regimen.

As far as in-office skin care, I’m all about the Laser Hair Removal! I’ve had GREAT results with that! I’ve treated my whole face, underarms and bikini. To be honest, it’s painful… But I really think it’s worth it!
In the autumn and winter months, I check in with the aestheticians and get a series of 4-5 chemical peels based on their recommendation. I love these treatments because the results are so visible! I also try to get a facial once per quarter and a little Botox for my angry-face forehead wrinkles as close to every 4 months as possible. A lot of people won’t share that they receive Botox treatments, but it’s more common than you think. I declined Botox for the first 2 years I was employed here before I finally decided it was something I was willing to try. My husband doesn’t like it, and asks me not to do it, but I’m here to tell you I trust the doctors at Dermatology Affiliates and I am fully confident in their judgment and ability. It doesn’t really hurt… I don’t even numb anymore. AND just because I’m 27 doesn’t mean I’m “too young” for Botox! The lines were there, and now they’re not!
Being at Dermatology Affiliates for 4 years has opened my eyes a lot. I was the teenager who went to tanning beds and laid out in the back yard in a bikini and covered myself in baby oil. I was super tan! I didn’t use any skin care products and I barely washed my face. At age 23 when I came to work here, I was over-stimulated by all the products I could get my hands on and I over-used, which is never good. Now, I really feel like I have direction. I know what my skin issues are and I address them aggressively! Looking back at those pictures from 5+ years ago I can see that I may have been “high-school skinny” back then, but my face has never looked as good as it does now. It’s noticeably improved and I have this healthy glow and smooth texture.
