SKIN PEN MICRONEEDLING

Why use it?

SkinPen is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, stretch marks and help build collagen and elastin. In fact, 90% of subjects in the clinical trial would recommend the treatment to friends and family. It’s a minimally invasive procedure performed in-office with little to no downtime. As the only FDA-cleared microneedling device, SkinPen sets the industry standard for safety.

QUESTIONS

Skin Pen Microneedling FAQ

SkinPen can be used on all types of skin for a wide range of problems, including acne scars and any area requiring cell regeneration or an intense repair process.

SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling – to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.

How is the procedure done?
Numbing gel is applied to the skin one hour prior to the procedure. Then, the face is cleansed and a thin layer of serum is applied to the skin, and the appropriate treatment is selected for a particular type of skin. The pen is then glided across the repair area in a gentle motion. The procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes depending upon the size of the area and the severity of skin damage.

Yes, by design. SkinPen’s patent-pending – and single-use – sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. No other manufacturer can make that claim, which is part of the reason SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s clearance covers not only the SkinPen device but the entire protocol. That includes the Skinfuse® Lift HG hydrogel used to protect against abrasion and friction during the treatment, as well as the custom-designed BioSheath to prevent cross contamination.

SkinPen should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); melasma or history of melasma, open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane).

Immediately following the treatment, you will notice a healthy pink glow. On average, patients are pink for two to four days. Some patients completely heal in 24 hours.

Most people notice healthier-looking skin immediately, and the natural repair process of the skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time, and it will continue to improve for up to six months after your final treatment.

Most patients receive a series of three treatments spaced about four weeks apart. For patients with more severe skin issues, additional sessions may be necessary.
