Removing Spider Veins

Located in Alpharetta, Buckhead, East Cobb, Midtown, and serving the surrounding areas of Atlanta and Marietta, Dermatology Affiliates offers vein disease treatment for spider veins via sclerotherapy.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are characterized by small red or dark lines on the surface of the skin. The lines are actually blood vessels, and when they function abnormally or are damaged, they become weak and dilated. They inevitably also become visible from the outside of the skin. Spider veins are most commonly seen on the central face, but they have also been seen on the chest, hands, and other parts of the face. There isn’t normally a serious risk associated with spider veins, but many people are embarrassed by their appearance. If your veins are noticeable enough, you may have the desire to remove them.

What Causes Spider Veins?

Environment and heredity cause spider veins. Excessive sun damages vessels. Rosacea and a tendency to blush may stretch vessels over time. As we age, vessels are damaged and no longer contract as they once did.

How Do You Treat Facial Spider Veins?

Today the gold standard for treating facial spider veins is the pulse dye laser. Dermatology Affiliates uses the VBeam Perfecta® in all locations. An older alternative is electro cautery but it can cause small scars.

Is Laser Painful?

When the treatment is administered, you may feel stinging, burning, or discomfort. This is normal, and the discomfort is typically mild. Our lasers use a brief cold spray to reduce pain.

What is the Recovery from Laser Like?

Fortunately, you don’t have to make any special changes to your routine after you’ve received a laser treatment. Sunscreen is recommended to protect skin.

When Will I See the Results from Laser

The appearance of spider veins will gradually fade and disappear for multiple weeks to come. With each additional session of laser, you will notice a gradual improvement in the affected area(s). For most patients, two to four treatments are necessary to significantly reduce spider veins.

How Long Do the Results from Laser Last?

Typically people who develop facial spider veins continue to form new ones and may repeat treatment in 2-3 years. Sunscreen and rosacea treatment help reduce the recurrence.

Can I Combine Laser with Other Procedures?

Because other procedures may increase redness temporarily, it is recommended that you bring any questions or concerns to us first. In most cases, you can receive laser treatment along with other procedures. However, it’s a good idea to ask for medical advice first.

What is the Cost of Laser?

The condition of the spider veins will ultimately determine how much the procedure will cost. Laser treatments for facial spider veins are not covered by insurance.
