Skin Care Treatment and Mohs Surgery in Atlanta

Skin cancer is the foundation of medical dermatology and something that Dermatology Affiliates takes very seriously. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States and affects people of all ages and ethnicities. At Dermatology Affiliates we take a comprehensive approach.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Dermatology Affiliates gets involved in the fight against skin cancer at the beginning: prevention.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology most people get skin cancer from too much sun or from tanning beds. As a result, we work to educate our patients about the dangers of sun exposure. In addition we provide products to help you limit your sun exposure, including sun hats and sunscreen products. {link: shop > sun protection}.

Skin Cancer Detection

Our dermatologists are experienced in detecting skin cancer early, when it’s most treatable. We can only do that if you come in for regular skin checks.

We also recommend that you regularly check your skin at home. For advice on what to look for during home screening, please read  our article What to Look For When Evaluating Skin Moles {link: skin resources > doctor philosophies}

If you have a skin spot that you are concerned about, please come in for a skin check. We’d be happy to evaluate it for you.

Skin Cancer Treatment and Mohs Surgery

The doctors at Dermatology Affiliates use the latest medical techniques and technologies to treat skin cancer. We work with you to recommend the best course of treatment for you and your type of skin cancer.  This may involve surgical excision of the skin cancer, topical chemotherapy or referral to outside specialists.

The two most common skin cancers in the USA are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.  Because these are usually due to extreme sun exposure, they frequently occur on the face and scalp.  Usually, the most effective way to treat skin cancers in these areas is Mohs surgery.  Mark Chastain, MD provides Mohs surgery at our Buckhead location.  We also refer to other Mohs surgeons that may be more convient for you.
