Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a patented formula comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microbeads infused in a water-based gel. Upon injection, the microspheres in Radiesse® initially work as a filler by providing instant volume and structure just under the skin to achieve a soft and natural look. In time, the body works to absorb the gel, but the microspheres stay in place and continue to add volume to smooth the skin.

Performed in any of our offices, a Dermatology Affiliates trained associate injects Radiesse® into the targeted area in only a few minutes. The actual treatment time depends on the number of sites to be treated and the total amount of filler needed to achieve the preferred look. Either a topical or local anesthesia may be applied to minimize discomfort.

There is no actual downtime after receiving Radiesse® treatment. While there is sometimes a little redness or slight swelling at the injection site, it typically disappears within a few days at the most. Most OTC, or over-the-counter, pain medications, like Alieve, ibuprofen or aspirin, help relieve any minor discomfort.

Yes, to fill lines on each side of the mouth and chin in men, Radiesse® is effective and lasts longer that hyaluronic acid fillers. Men’s skin is thicker than women’s, and the calcium product is more substantial. Some fillers cause a blue shadow under the skin. Radiesse is white and does not look blue under the skin.

Radiesse® is highly effective when used to treat wrinkles, lines, and creases adjacent to the nose and mouth, including the all-too-common smile and marionette lines around the mouth. It is also an effective treatment for smoothing wrinkles in other areas such as across the chin and jawline as well as the cheek areas that usually become hollow as we get older.

Depending on your personal goal with cosmetic fillers, Radiesse® can be applied alone or in combination with other fillers such as BOTOX® which is used to relax the muscles in some areas of the face.
