Dr. Taliaferro came to dermatology by listening to her heart and doing what she loved the most.

“During medical school, I paid close attention to what I enjoyed the most,” Dr. Taliaferro says. “When I was on clinical rotations, if I did not watch the clock, I knew I was enjoying it. When I was doing dermatology, for the most part, it did not feel like work.”

A passion for skin diseases led her to dermatology. Dr. Taliaferro has expertise, and as an African-American dermatologist, a particular interest in pigmentation disorders and she routinely performs split earlobe repairs and removal of keloids.  “I have been fortunate to work with renown experts in pigmentary disorders and keloids,” she says. “So I have been able to develop specific expertise in these areas.”

When she thinks about her life and what she loves, her choice to pursue dermatology makes perfect sense.

“I have always enjoyed making things beautiful – creating beautiful spaces, refurbishing furniture, arts and crafts,” she says. “In dermatology, I enjoy the ability to combine my love of science and art to enhance or achieve beautiful skin.”

While she enjoys cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Taliaferro’s colleagues tell her that she still thinks like an Internist. “I rely on my background in Internal Medicine to deliver comprehensive skin care,” she says. “I enjoy the thrill of solving interesting medical cases and treating skin cancers. I love the variety in dermatology."

Like other doctors at Dermatology Affiliates, Dr. Taliaferro enjoys variety. She says her favorite days are when she gets to see medical cases, do laser treatments, perform surgical procedures and do cosmetic procedures all in the same day.

“Many of my patients will leave my office with a medical prescription, recommendations for certain skin care products, and even make-up recommendations,” she says. “My work encompasses the clear-cut science of skin care and its artistic applications.”

To get the most from your time with Dr. Taliaferro, she suggests that you bring a list of all the medications you are taking.

Dr. Taliaferro has co-written chapters in Fitzpatrick’s, Dermatology in General Medicine, the premier textbook of dermatology, and the text book, Treatments for the Skin of Color.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, an active member of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, the Atlanta Association for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, and the Atlanta Medical Association.  She is one of the youngest board members for the Medical Association of Atlanta and leads their new Residency Mentorship Program.  As an active member of the Medical Association of Georgia, she was selected among her colleagues to participate in the Georgia Physician’s Leadership Academy.  Dr. Taliaferro is a regular speaker for the dermatology section of the National Medical Association and has appeared as an expert guest of Fox 5 Good Day Atlanta.
